General Information:

Nomination Period: Monday, July 14, 2014 - Friday, August 8, 2014. During this period, all candidates must file nomination documents and their declarations of candidacy for office. Candidates running for City Offices file with the City Clerk’s Office. Candidates need to check with their City Clerks 

Note: If the incumbent does not file, the nomination period is extended for 5 (five) days to Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

Filing Fee: ​ Each candidate who receives Nomination Petitions from the Office of the City Clerk must pay the filing fee of three hundred dollars ($300.00). Candidates may opt to pay an initial deposit of fifty dollars ($50.00) when they pick up Nomination Petitions, and remit the balance of the filing fee when the nomination petitions are filed. No portion of the filing fee is refundable.

Nomination petitions Will be issued by the Office of the City Clerk as part of the Nomination Packet. Petitions will be issued to candidates or to an authorized representative of the candidate. Potential candidates may pick up and return Nomination Petitions only during the Nomination Period. Once complete, all required documents must be filed together. Petitions may be withdrawn after filing, however amendments are not allowed.

Signature Requirement For Nomination Petitions 

  • District Offices: For district offices, candidates must obtain signatures from at least 50, but no more than 100 registered voters of the City residing within the district from which the candidate seeks election. A registered voter may nominate only one candidate for each office. 

  • Citywide Offices: For citywide offices, candidates must obtain signatures from at least 50 and no more than 100 registered voters of the City. A registered voter may nominate only one candidate for each office.

Qualifications

  • Councilmember :Registered voter and resident of the designated district for which he/she is a candidate for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued. 
  • City Attorney :Registered voter and resident of the City resident for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued. Must be licensed to practice law in all courts of the State of California and so licensed for at least ten years preceding his or her 

    election.

  • City Auditor Registered voter and resident of the City for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued. Must be certified by the California State Board of Accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant; or by the Institute of Internal Auditor as a Certified Internal Auditor. 

  • School Board Director Registered voter and resident of the designated district for which he/she is a candidate for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued. 

  • Mayor Registered voter and resident of the City for at least 30 days at time nomination papers are issued.
