The Call Building is located at 894 Monterey Street, at the intersection of Monterey and Morro.

There was first a wooden building, constructed before 1869, that was referred to as "Call's Building," likely owned by Silas B. Call. In 1895 the building was moved to Leff and Santa Barbara, where it became the Chicago Hotel, which burned in 1897 (now the site of The Establishment).2, 3

The present building was constructed in 1895 for Nancy E. Call (1840-1905). It was designed by local architect H. S. Laird, and is an example of an early brick building in San Luis Obispo. It housed many businesses, including J. L. Anderson's Clothing Store (J. L. Anderson later built the Anderson Hotel).

The building was extensively remodeled by T. A. Maino in 1938.Maino coated the exterior brick walls with cement stucco and squared the windows on the second story, as it looks today.
