Farm Credit helps to sustain rural lifestyle and farmers by extending loans for farming needs, construction and improvement, and livestock in addition to connecting beginning, young or small farmers with specialized programs to help with their start-up and ongoing costs. They offer flexible lending plans that allow farmers to pay back in sync with their cyclical, seasonal income and cash sales. They work with farmers to create customized payment plans. They also provide crop insurance, life insurance and credit counseling.

History of Organization

Farm Credit began in 1916 and is now the largest single provider of agricultural credit in the U.S. Farm Credit of the Virginias provides more than $1.5 billion in financing to rural homeowners, farmers and landowners in 96 counties in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.

Programs and Projects 

FCoV runs an online agricultural “knowledge center,” posting information on agricultural planning, grants,  young, new and minority farmers as well as event listings. Farm Launch is a program supporting start-up farmers through lending and education. The Youth Agricultural Loan is available to young entrepreneurs aged 9-18.
