Beer is one of the most widely consumed and popular alcoholic beverages in the world. Grand Rapids has recently become a national hot spot for the craft beer industry.In 2012, Grand Rapids tied with Ashville, NC for the title of "Beer City USA" in a public poll on examiner.com. The website considered the results to be a statical tie, and both cities share the title.1

An important part of the growing Grand Rapids beer culture are beer-focused events throughout the year. These events bring together beer-enthusiasts from across the state into the Grand Rapids area, and the provide a venue for new and established breweries to showcase their beer.
History
Craft brewing has long been a part of the history of this city. In late 2012, Grand Rapids Public Museum mounted an exhibition about the history of craft beer brewing in Grand Rapids. The exhibition will close in December 2012.
